SUKKUR: Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development (BBS-UTECH), Khairpur, has become the only technology university from Sindh to join the newly established P-8 Consortium for Emerging Engineering and Technology Universities, marking a significant milestone for the province’s higher education sector.
The university was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Meritorious) Dr Rasool Bux Mahar, at the consortium’s inaugural meeting hosted by the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad. The event was organized with the support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) through its National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE).
BBS-UTECH’s inclusion in the consortium positions it among a select group of emerging engineering and technology universities working together to strengthen academic standards, research and innovation across Pakistan.
During the event, Dr Mahar presented a commemorative shield to Lt Gen Moazzam Ejaz, Rector of NUTECH, and also gifted the traditional Sindhi Ajrak to Lt Gen Ejaz, Dr Noor Amna Malik, Managing Director of NAHE-HEC, and other distinguished participants as a symbol of Sindh’s cultural heritage.
The consortium was formally established following the HEC’s 46th Commission meeting, with a steering committee chaired by the Rector of NUTECH. Representatives of member universities endorsed a shared 2026–2030 strategic roadmap aimed at promoting collaborative research, faculty exchanges, international partnerships, quality assurance, innovation commercialisation and institutional performance monitoring.
Speaking during the session, Lt Gen Moazzam Ejaz highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between universities, industry and researchers, while Dr Noor Amna Malik described the consortium as a major step towards accelerating institutional development through knowledge sharing.
