ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand in Islamabad and held discussions on bilateral relations, regional issues and global developments.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere as both sides reviewed the recent progress in Pakistan-Canada ties and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and underlined the importance of maintaining regular engagement to address shared challenges. They reaffirmed their commitment to building a stronger and more productive partnership based on mutual respect and common interests.
During the talks, Pakistan and Canada agreed to expand cooperation in priority areas and enhance collaboration in sectors that could bring economic and strategic benefits to both countries. The two sides also decided to continue working closely through established diplomatic channels to advance their shared objectives.
The ministers agreed to hold annual meetings aimed at reviewing progress on the Joint Statement agreed between the two countries. Officials said the mechanism would help ensure consistent follow-up on decisions and provide a platform to assess new opportunities for cooperation.
The visit reflected renewed diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Ottawa at a time when both countries have been seeking to broaden their economic and political relations.
Pakistan and Canada have maintained longstanding relations, with cooperation extending across trade, investment, education, development, and people-to-people contacts. The latest discussions were seen as part of efforts to give fresh momentum to the bilateral partnership and create new avenues of collaboration.
