ISLAMABAD: The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, led a delegation of parliamentary leaders to the UN Resident & Humanitarian Coordinator’s office in Pakistan, presenting the unanimously adopted National Assembly resolution on Palestine. The delegation included Federal Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and MNAs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Syed Aminul Haque, Anjum Aqeel Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Rana Qasim Noon, Dr. Nafisa Shah, and Shazia Murri.
The resolution, adopted by the National Assembly on August 2, 2024, condemns the recent violence in Gaza and the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The resolution characterizes Haniyeh’s killing as a deliberate attempt to undermine efforts to resolve the Gaza conflict and halt the ongoing violence against Palestinians. It condemns the escalating brutality by Israeli forces, which has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, including women and children.
The resolution calls for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, the provision of sustainable humanitarian assistance to Palestinians, and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza. It expresses solidarity with the Palestinian people and accuses the Israeli leadership of attempting to expel Palestinians from their homeland.
During the presentation at the UN office, the delegation emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights and seeking international support to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The resolution and the delegation’s visit underscore Pakistan’s active role in the global effort to achieve peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
