Democracy could only deepen through active public participation, the MQM-P chief said, as he linked the country’s political future to addressing people’s everyday challenges

TANDO ALLAHYAR: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said political changes were taking place across the country and expressed confidence that the time was approaching when governments would be formed by genuine representatives of ordinary citizens rather than influential elites and feudal landlords.
Addressing a large gathering of party workers in Tando Allahyar, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui spoke at length about the country’s political and economic situation. He discussed the importance of strengthening democratic institutions and highlighted the need for electoral reforms ahead of future local government and general elections.
The MQM-P chairman also referred to the challenges being faced by people in different parts of the country and stressed that public participation remained essential for meaningful democratic progress. He presented what he described as three key demands aimed at ensuring a transparent and credible democratic system.
Khalid Maqbool called for the immediate correction and updating of electoral rolls, saying that fake and inaccurate entries should be removed without delay. He said every eligible citizen must have the right to cast a protected vote and insisted that clean voter lists were essential for free and fair elections.
The chairman also urged the authorities to make the census process fully transparent and impartial, particularly in Sindh. He said all concerns raised by different communities should be addressed fairly so that the population count reflected the actual demographic realities. According to him, an accurate census formed the basis of equitable political representation and fair distribution of public resources.
Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui further demanded the cancellation of what he described as politically motivated delimitations. He said fresh constituencies should be created on the basis of geographical realities and population proportions. He argued that fair delimitation would strengthen democratic institutions and ensure equal political representation for all citizens.
Speaking about the political situation in Sindh, he said the province had remained under a feudal political structure for decades. He claimed that the existing system had failed to resolve the problems of ordinary people and had instead widened social and economic inequalities. He said public patience had reached its limit after years of political neglect and unequal development.
