SUKKUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Crime Circle Sukkur, intensified its crackdown against corruption by exposing illegal deductions from BISP payments in Khairpur and busting an alleged passport agent mafia in Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki district. Arrests were made and cases were registered against those involved in unlawful activities.
During an operation at M/s Bismillah Communication, Main Road, Babarlo, District Khairpur, the FIA team uncovered illegal deductions being made from payments of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). During the raid, the accused, Najaf Ali son of Naeem Ahmed, was found present at the premises.
Several BISP beneficiaries informed the FIA team that unauthorized deductions ranging from Rs500 to Rs1,000 had been made from their payments. The FIA recovered and seized three HBL Konnect biometric devices, one Tecno Spark Go mobile phone, four registers containing CNIC details of BISP beneficiaries, and two original CNICs belonging to beneficiaries.
The accused failed to provide any lawful justification for the unauthorized deductions or for possessing the original identity documents of BISP beneficiaries. Following the operation, an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested. Further investigation was underway.
The FIA Sukkur Zone said it remained committed to protecting public funds and safeguarding the rights of beneficiaries of government welfare programs. It added that such operations would continue and those involved in exploiting deserving citizens would face strict legal action.
In a separate operation, the FIA Crime Circle Sukkur conducted a raid at the Passport Office in Mirpur Mathelo, District Ghotki, and exposed an alleged agent mafia involved in demanding illegal payments from passport applicants for facilitating passport-related services.
