KARACHI: A Karachi court has handed over a businessman accused of staging his own death and his alleged accomplice to police custody for four days in connection with the discovery of a burnt body in a vehicle in Surjani Town.
The case was heard by the Judicial Magistrate (West), where police produced suspects Zeeshan Naz and Zigham before the court. Police allege that the suspects drugged a labourer, identified as Qurban Hassan, with pesticide tablets used to kill rice pests before pouring petrol over him and setting him on fire.
According to the police, Zeeshan allegedly dressed the victim in his own clothes in an attempt to conceal the victim’s identity and make investigators believe that he himself had died.
Investigators said the accused allegedly tried to portray the incident as either an accident or suicide. Police further alleged that Zeeshan had killed the innocent labourer as part of an attempt to escape his creditors and make them believe he was dead.
The court subsequently approved a four-day physical remand of both suspects and handed them over to police for further investigation.
