New Dehli: Amnesty International has alleged that India supplied 2,596 shipments of weapons to Israel during the war in Gaza, despite what the organisation described as ongoing genocide against Palestinians.
In its report, the international human rights organisation said India continued supplying arms to Israel while Israel’s military campaign in Gaza was causing widespread civilian suffering and destruction. Amnesty International Secretary General Agnès Callamard called on India to stop exporting weapons to Israel, arguing that continued arms transfers risk contributing to serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Callamard further said that by exporting weapons to Israel, India was violating its obligations under the Geneva Conventions. Amnesty International has repeatedly called on states to halt direct and indirect transfers of arms and military equipment to Israel where there is a risk that such supplies could contribute to violations of international law. The organisation’s latest position comes amid continued international scrutiny of countries and companies involved in supplying military equipment to Israel. Amnesty has urged states to prevent arms transfers where there is a clear risk that the equipment could facilitate war crimes or other serious violations.
