KARACHI: Students at a private institute in Karachi have developed an innovative indoor navigation app that uses augmented reality (AR) to guide users to specific offices and rooms inside buildings.
The app provides step-by-step directions without requiring an internet connection or GPS. It is designed to help users navigate complex buildings by showing them the route to their desired destination. If a user takes a wrong turn, the app can immediately calculate and suggest a new route.
The project was showcased at “Tech Nova”, an annual technology event organised at the private institute, where students from more than 35 universities displayed over 45 innovative projects.
The students behind the navigation app said they plan to expand its potential applications beyond educational institutions. The technology could eventually be adapted for use in hospitals, shopping malls and government offices, making it easier for visitors to find their destinations inside large or unfamiliar buildings.
The project highlights how augmented reality can be used to solve everyday navigation challenges and provide practical digital solutions without relying on conventional GPS-based navigation.
