RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed five militants in an intelligence-based operation in the Razmak area of North Waziristan district, the military’s media wing said, as the country’s counterterrorism campaign continued against armed groups.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched after reports about the presence of militants belonging to Fitna Al Khwarij, which the military described as an Indian-sponsored proxy group.
During the operation, an intense exchange of fire took place between security forces and the militants. ISPR said Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, who was leading his troops from the front, fought bravely and embraced martyrdom during the encounter.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the militants killed in the operation. It added that the individuals were involved in terrorist activities targeting security forces, law enforcement agencies and innocent civilians.
Following the operation, security forces launched a sanitization effort in the area to search for any remaining militants and ensure the complete elimination of terrorist elements. ISPR said the action was part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, aimed at dismantling foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism in the country.
The military paid tribute to Major Hafiz Ihsan Elahi, saying the sacrifices of security personnel reflected their determination to protect the country despite the challenges posed by terrorism.
Security forces have continued intelligence-based operations in different parts of the country as authorities seek to prevent militant networks from regrouping and maintain security in sensitive areas. ISPR said such operations would continue until the threat of terrorism was fully addressed.
