LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz invited US investors and business leaders to participate in the Punjab StartUp Fund, highlighting the province’s growing opportunities in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Speaking to a US business delegation in Lahore, she said Punjab was seeking greater cooperation with American companies in technology transfer, technical expertise and investment to accelerate economic growth. She said stronger international partnerships could help expand the province’s emerging technology sector and create new opportunities for young professionals.
The chief minister said the provincial government had set ambitious targets to develop human capital in frontier technologies. She said Punjab aimed to produce 1.5 million graduates equipped with advanced technology skills, including 40 per cent women, as part of efforts to build an inclusive digital economy.
She added that the government was working to support 1,200 startups and provide internship opportunities to 32,000 young people. Maryam Nawaz said the initiatives were designed to encourage innovation, promote entrepreneurship and prepare the workforce for future economic challenges.
She informed the delegation that Punjab had established 20 Special Economic Zones and two Export Processing Zones, offering investors a range of opportunities in different sectors. She said the province had also introduced a one-window investment facilitation system and a digital platform aimed at simplifying business approvals and reducing procedural delays.
The chief minister said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was also playing an important role in addressing investment-related matters at the federal level and creating a more favorable environment for foreign investors.
