KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Nisar Khuhro criticized Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi over his recent remarks on administrative changes, accusing him of creating political controversy and contributing to uncertainty in the country’s political environment.
Speaking in Karachi, Khuhro alleged that Naqvi met President Asif Ali Zardari before making what he described as a controversial statement. He claimed the remarks were aimed at increasing tensions and creating divisions among political forces.
Khuhro said there was a “conspiracy” behind the ongoing debate over the creation of additional provinces. He questioned the practicality of establishing more provinces and asked whether such a move would require the appointment of 22 chief ministers.
The PPP leader warned that any attempt to divide Sindh would face strong resistance from the people of the province. He said the issue was sensitive and could not be decided without considering public opinion and political realities.
Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani also opposed proposals for creating new provinces in Sindh, saying that the people and elected representatives of the province had already expressed their position on the matter. He said their views should be respected in any discussion about administrative changes.
However, referring to similar discussions in Punjab, Ghani said that if elected representatives in the province supported the creation of new provinces through a resolution of the provincial assembly, the matter would represent the wishes of Punjab’s people and should be considered separately.
The statements came amid renewed debate over administrative restructuring and proposals for the creation of new provinces in Pakistan. The issue has continued to generate political discussion, with parties taking different positions based on regional interests and governance concerns.
