ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday criticized the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, alleging widespread irregularities and claiming that the voting process was neither free nor fair.
In a statement, Bilawal described the election as controversial and accused those responsible of undermining the public mandate. He used strong language to express his concerns, referring to the polls as a “bloody election” and alleging that violence and electoral manipulation had affected the outcome.
The PPP chairman thanked party workers and supporters for helping the party win nine seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly. However, he claimed that some constituencies, particularly in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad, had been taken away from the PPP through what he described as an unfair process.
Bilawal said the party would continue its political struggle and would not withdraw from the field despite the challenges. He said the PPP would raise its concerns on every available platform and continue working for what it believed was the restoration of the public mandate.
He also announced a public gathering in Bagh district on August 10 and called on supporters from the Poonch region to participate in the rally. The PPP leader’s remarks came amid political tensions following the AJK elections, with opposition parties raising questions over the conduct of the polling process.
The Election Commission and government representatives have maintained that the elections were held according to legal and constitutional procedures. Bilawal said the party’s political journey would continue, adding that electoral setbacks would not weaken the PPP’s commitment to democratic politics.
