KARACHI: The Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) has issued show-cause notices to three officers and employees over the reported spread of HIV among children at Waliqa Hospital in Karachi.
SESSI Commissioner Hadi Bakhsh Kalhoro said the final show-cause notices were issued on the basis of findings presented in the report of an inquiry committee formed to investigate the matter.

According to the commissioner, the officials and employees who received the notices have been directed to submit written responses within 14 days.
Kalhoro said disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against those who fail to respond within the stipulated period.
The inquiry was launched following reports of HIV infections among children at the SESSI-run Waliqa Hospital, raising concerns about infection-control practices and the safety of patients receiving treatment at the facility.
The latest action indicates that the institution is now moving towards determining responsibility following the inquiry into the reported cases.
Officials said the responses submitted by the recipients would be considered as part of the disciplinary process before any further action is taken.
The development comes amid growing concern over HIV infections among children in Sindh and renewed scrutiny of healthcare facilities, including their infection-control procedures, use of medical equipment and overall patient safety.
