KARACHI: The University of Karachi (KU) organized a solidarity rally on Wednesday to mark Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir (Kashmir Exploitation Day) and express support for the people of Kashmir.
The rally was led by KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail Jokhio and was attended by the university’s Registrar, deans, faculty members, students, officers and employees.
The rally started from the KU Administrative Block and concluded at Azadi Chowk, where participants expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
Carrying banners and placards, participants raised slogans in support of the Kashmir cause and against oppression and exploitation.
Addressing the gathering, KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people and said the country would continue extending diplomatic, political and moral support for their right to self-determination.
He said the Pakistani nation stood in solidarity with the Kashmiri people and would continue supporting their legitimate struggle at every level.
The Vice Chancellor called for granting the Kashmiri people their fundamental right to self-determination in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions, allowing them to decide their future.
He said KU remained committed to raising its voice for the rights of the Kashmiri people and would continue expressing solidarity with them at every forum.
Professor Dr Muhammad Tufail said the observance of Kashmir Exploitation Day served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people and the challenges they continued to face.
He stressed that educational institutions and other organisations had a responsibility to highlight the voices of affected communities and ensure that their concerns remained part of global discussions.
The rally concluded with renewed pledges of solidarity, as the KU community reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people.
