SUKKUR: Sukkur IBA University observed Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir with national spirit on Wednesday to express solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and condemn the unilateral actions taken by India on August 5, 2019.
The event began with a solidarity walk led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ahmed Shaikh, accompanied by Additional Commissioner Sukkur Dr Muhammad Aamir Ansari, Pro Vice Chancellors, Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, officers, staff and students.
The participants walked from Academic Block-III to Academic Block-II, where a collective Dua was offered for the martyrs and the people of Kashmir.
The observance started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. Addressing the awareness session as chief guest, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ahmed Shaikh reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and stressed that the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations resolutions.
He condemned alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urged the international community to play its role in ensuring justice, peace and the fundamental right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people.
He said the people of Pakistan, including the academic community of Sukkur IBA University, stood in solidarity with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
The awareness session was introduced by Syed Sikandar Ali Shah, who highlighted the historical, constitutional and geopolitical significance of August 5, 2019.
He said India’s revocation of Articles 370 and 35A had altered the constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and intensified regional and international concerns. He added that Pakistan continued to advocate the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people through diplomatic and international forums.
The participants observed a one-minute silence in honour of the martyrs of Kashmir and to express solidarity with the people affected by the conflict in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Additional Commissioner Sukkur Dr Muhammad Aamir Ansari said the events of August 5, 2019, had further affected the constitutional status and fundamental rights of the people of IIOJK.
He stressed the importance of public awareness, academic dialogue and responsible media engagement to keep the Kashmir issue alive at national and international forums while reaffirming Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support for the Kashmiri cause.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment by the faculty, staff and students of Sukkur IBA University to continue raising awareness about the Kashmir issue and support peaceful efforts aimed at ensuring justice, dignity and the internationally recognised right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
