KARACHI: A large rally was held by Korangi Town on Wednesday to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir on Youm-e-Istehsal, with participants condemning alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir.
The rally, led by Korangi Town Chairman Muhammad Naeem Sheikh, started from the Town Office Korangi No. 2½ and was attended by union council chairmen and vice chairmen, women wing representatives, political and social figures, heads of various departments, officials, employees and a large number of citizens.
Carrying national and Kashmiri flags, participants expressed support for the Kashmiri people and raised slogans in favour of their right to self-determination. They also voiced opposition to what they described as Indian actions and restrictions in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Naeem Sheikh said Youm-e-Istehsal was a day to reaffirm solidarity with Kashmiris and highlight their long-standing demand for fundamental rights.
He said Pakistan’s support for the right to self-determination of Kashmiris remained part of the country’s stated position, adding that the issue should continue to be highlighted at international forums.
The Korangi Town chairman said the participation of officials and employees in the rally reflected unity on national issues and demonstrated collective support for Kashmir-related concerns.
Ahead of the rally, departmental heads had been directed to ensure the participation of their respective teams. Officials from different departments attended the event in an organised manner and observed the occasion with discipline.
The participants called on the international community to pay attention to the human rights situation in Kashmir and take steps for the protection of fundamental rights.
