KARACHI: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered a record 5,438 new companies in July, reflecting continued growth in business registrations across the country.
According to the SECP, five international companies also established offices in Pakistan during the month, with firms from Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and China entering the Pakistani market. Foreign directors were included in 112 of the newly registered companies.
The newly registered businesses included 3,148 private limited companies, 2,117 single-member companies and 127 limited liability partnerships. The SECP also registered 28 non-profit organisations and 18 public companies.
Punjab accounted for the largest share of registrations, with 2,756 companies, or 51% of the total. Islamabad followed with 1,053 registrations, while 864 companies were registered in Sindh, 450 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 180 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 135 in Balochistan.
The information technology sector recorded the highest number of new registrations, with 1,008 companies joining the sector. Trading businesses accounted for 845 registrations, followed by services with 638 and construction with 348.
Other sectors also recorded significant activity. A total of 256 companies were registered in food and beverages, 207 in tourism, 181 in e-commerce, 165 in education, 162 in real estate development and 145 in corporate agriculture.
The figures indicate broad-based business activity, with technology, trading and services emerging as the leading sectors for new company registrations during the month.
