KARACHI: Home and Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has rejected allegations made by former finance minister Miftah Ismail against President Asif Ali Zardari regarding recruitment in the Sindh Police, calling the claims unfounded and misleading.
Responding to Ismail’s remarks, Lanjar said President Zardari represented all federating units of Pakistan and that the Pakistan People’s Party was a genuinely federal political force. He said attempts to associate the president with only one province, language or ethnic group were contrary to facts and could harm national unity.
The provincial minister said all government recruitments in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, were carried out according to legal procedures, quota policies and merit-based criteria. He described the Sindh Police as a professional and impartial institution working under established rules.
Lanjar said the Sindh government did not believe in discrimination on the basis of language, ethnicity, region or community and remained committed to equal opportunities for citizens.
Lanjar urged Miftah Ismail, as a responsible political leader, to avoid making allegations that lacked evidence or could contribute to social divisions. He said that if Ismail had proof regarding any specific recruitment matter, it should be presented before the relevant legal or administrative forums instead of making general accusations.
The Sindh home minister demanded that Ismail clarify and withdraw what he described as an inaccurate and irresponsible statement. The exchange marked another political disagreement over governance and recruitment policies in Sindh, with both sides defending their positions on issues of merit, representation and institutional transparency.
