KARACHI: The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory (DTL) in Karachi has declared IV infusion sets manufactured by five companies substandard after samples failed to meet required quality standards.
According to the DTL director, samples of the infusion sets were tested at the laboratory but failed to comply with the prescribed specifications.
The director said the tubing length of all five IV drip sets did not meet the required standard. The material used in manufacturing the infusion sets was also found to be substandard, raising concerns about the quality of the medical devices.
According to the laboratory spokesperson, the samples were collected from Naushahro Feroze and Karachi’s Malir district and were subsequently sent for testing.
The DTL director said all five products had been declared substandard under the Medical Devices Rules, 2017. The laboratory has forwarded its findings to the relevant drug inspectors for further action.
The test reports have also been sent to the Secretary of the Sindh Quality Control Board, according to the director.
Authorities are expected to take further regulatory action against the manufacturers based on the laboratory findings.
The development comes amid continued efforts by health authorities to monitor the quality and safety of medical devices being supplied and used in healthcare facilities across Sindh.
