MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan signed a landmark joint defence agreement in Makkah, pledging to deepen military cooperation and strengthen collective security amid growing regional challenges.
The agreement was signed during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, which was held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah on August 7, 2026. The summit was hosted at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the summit. The three leaders reviewed bilateral and regional issues and discussed ways to expand cooperation in defence and security fields.
The agreement marked a significant step in the longstanding relations among the three Muslim-majority countries. The leaders described the pact as a reflection of their shared strategic interests, historical ties and commitment to regional peace and stability.
Under the agreement, the three countries agreed to enhance cooperation in various areas of defence and security. It stated that any armed attack against one of the three states would be considered an attack against all, creating a framework for collective response and deterrence.
The pact aimed to strengthen the ability of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to address emerging security threats through closer coordination. It also focused on improving defence partnerships and building a stronger mechanism for cooperation between their armed forces.
