LARKANA: A delegation from Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, participated in a seminar and webinar at Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, to mark World Breastfeeding Week 2026.
The event was held under the theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works”. It brought together health experts, academics, government representatives, international organizations and civil society groups to discuss ways to improve breastfeeding support and maternal and child health.
The SALU delegation attended the event on the directives of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Yousuf Khushk. It included Dr Ali Raza Lashari, Dr Majida Ruk and students from the university.
Dr Lashari moderated a session that focused on strengthening breastfeeding support and translating policy commitments into practical measures. Speakers discussed the need to ensure that mothers received reliable information and appropriate support from healthcare institutions and communities.
Dr Ruk participated in discussions on the role of universities, healthcare institutions and local communities in improving awareness about breastfeeding. She stressed the importance of cooperation among different sectors to ensure that health messages reached families effectively.
Participants also discussed the implementation of the Sindh Protection and Promotion of Breast-Feeding and Young Child Nutrition Act, 2023. Particular attention was given to cooperation between academic institutions, healthcare providers and community organizations.
The organizers welcomed SALU’s participation and appreciated the university administration for supporting the delegation. They said stronger partnerships among universities, health institutions, international organizations and civil society groups were needed to improve maternal and child health and nutrition.
They said academic institutions could play an important role in raising public awareness and supporting evidence-based health initiatives. Collaboration among stakeholders, they added, could also help translate existing policies into practical programs at community level.
SALU said its participation reflected its commitment to community engagement, health awareness and academic collaboration. The university said it also sought to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals through partnerships with national and international organizations.
