KARACHI: District West police detained 89 people during a major search operation against drug use in the Banaras Chowk area, officials said.
The operation was carried out within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station as part of an intensified campaign against drug use and the activities of drug dealers. Police teams conducted searches at different locations and detained people suspected of involvement in drug-related activities.
According to the SSP West, several people were also verified through a biometric device during the operation. The authorities said the biometric verification was carried out to establish the identities of those detained and check their records.
Police officials said the detained people were being shifted to Edhi Homes, where they would receive treatment and rehabilitation support. The move was aimed at helping drug users recover rather than leaving them on the streets without assistance.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Pirabad SHO Hanif Anees. Police said the campaign was intended to curb drug use and disrupt the activities of dealers operating in the area.
Officials said search and targeted operations against drug dealers and drug users would be intensified. They added that continued action was needed to protect young people and prevent drug use from becoming a deeper social problem in the community.
