QUETTA: Women lawmakers in Balochistan condemned the killing of two women in Noshki, allegedly by militants belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan, and said attacks targeting women and children would not be tolerated.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Quetta, provincial ministers Raheela Hameed Durrani, Meena Majeed and Hadia Nawaz Behrani, along with Balochistan Assembly Deputy Speaker Ghazala Gola, denounced the killings.
The lawmakers described the victims as innocent and said targeting women represented a serious escalation in militant violence. They said attacks against civilians were unacceptable and could not be justified under any circumstances.
They said militant groups were increasingly attempting to spread fear by targeting vulnerable members of society. Violence against women and children, they added, threatened peace and social stability across the province.
The women legislators said the provincial government was taking steps to improve social and economic conditions in Balochistan. They pointed to measures aimed at expanding access to education, improving healthcare and creating employment opportunities for young people.
They said investment in education and jobs was essential to giving young people better prospects and reducing the space in which extremist groups could operate. The lawmakers said the provincial government remained committed to protecting citizens and improving public services despite continuing security challenges.
They also called for collective efforts to counter terrorism and extremism. They said attacks on civilians, particularly women and children, affected entire communities and damaged the social fabric of Balochistan.
The lawmakers stressed that terrorism could not be defeated through security measures alone. They said development, education and economic opportunities were also necessary to create a more stable society.
