Intelligence-led operation in Balochistan’s Kharan district targeted militants in the Lajay area, highlighting continued security efforts against armed groups

KHARAN: Security forces killed at least 12 militants in two separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said.
Seven militants belonging to Fitna al-Khawarij were killed in an operation in Kharan district of Balochistan. The operation was conducted under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3 after security forces received intelligence about the presence of militants in the Lajay area. Several other militants were also injured during the operation, according to security sources.
Security forces destroyed militant hideouts and recovered modern weapons, a large quantity of ammunition and other military equipment. Two vehicles and a motorcycle were also seized, the sources said. The militants were accused of planning robberies, extortion, kidnappings for ransom, targeted killings and suicide attacks in Kharan and the Lajay area.
Security sources said intelligence-based operations under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3 were continuing across Balochistan. They said the operations were aimed at disrupting militant networks and preventing attacks. Meanwhile, security forces and district police killed at least five militants during a joint intelligence-based operation in different parts of Bannu.
The operation was launched after intelligence indicated the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij operatives in the vicinity of Sadron, Akbar Ali Khan village and surrounding areas. A joint tactical team led by Bannu District Police Officer Muhammad Furqan Bilal targeted suspected militant hideouts, security officials said.
The forces used drone technology to conduct surveillance and support tactical action during the operation. The use of drones allowed the security personnel to monitor movements in the targeted areas while conducting the operation.
A search and clearance operation remained under way in adjoining areas to track other suspected militants and identify additional hideouts, the sources said. Security officials said the operation was intended to dismantle militant networks and prevent them from regrouping or carrying out attacks.
The latest operations came amid continued security efforts against Fitna al-Khawarij in parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have increasingly conducted intelligence-based operations to identify suspected militant positions and disrupt their support networks.
The authorities said such operations would continue as part of efforts to counter terrorism and improve security in affected areas. The claims about the number of militants killed, their affiliation and the activities attributed to them could not be independently verified.
