KABUL: Afghan citizens in several cities have described the Taliban’s five years in power as one of the darkest periods in the country’s recent history. They accused the Taliban administration of worsening poverty, unemployment and lawlessness while allowing Afghanistan’s infrastructure and economy to deteriorate.
Video messages shared by Afghan citizens from different parts of the country showed growing anger over the Taliban’s rule. The messages criticized the government’s policies and its handling of the country’s deepening economic and humanitarian problems.
An Afghan citizen from Jalalabad, a city regarded as a Taliban stronghold, said the five-year rule had pushed Afghanistan back by decades. He claimed the country had suffered widespread destruction under the Taliban and argued that the authorities had failed to improve the lives of ordinary people.
The speaker also made strong allegations about the Taliban’s foreign ties and claimed that the group had become dependent on outside powers. These claims could not be independently verified.
In another video message from Kandahar, an Afghan citizen spoke about hunger, unemployment and the hardships faced by ordinary families. He called on Afghans to unite and speak out against the Taliban rather than confronting the authorities individually. “The Taliban have ruined our entire country,” he said, according to the video message.
The comments reflected the frustration of citizens who said they had seen little improvement in their living conditions since the Taliban returned to power. Afghanistan had continued to face severe economic pressures, limited employment opportunities and a humanitarian crisis that had placed millions of people in need of assistance.
