KHAIRPUR: The Medicine Department of Medical Unit-11 at KMC Khairpur continued its regular academic activities on Thursday, providing valuable learning opportunities for postgraduate residents while simultaneously benefiting both admitted and outpatient patients. The session focused on a case of liver cancer, specifically Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), which was assigned to Dr. Asma Pervez, a postgraduate resident, for demonstration.

Over the course of a 30-minute session, Dr. Pervez conducted a thorough patient history and detailed physical examination, following the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) protocol. Her performance was closely observed and evaluated by Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto, Associate Professor of Medicine, who praised her for taking a comprehensive patient history, performing a systematic examination, and demonstrating a clear understanding of clinical protocols. Dr. Pervez also defended her case confidently during the viva voce segment, reflecting her competence and preparedness.

The session was interactive, with feedback collected from fellow postgraduate residents and participants. Minor observations regarding methodology were addressed by Dr. Phulpoto and Dr. Muhammad Asif Khaskhelly, ensuring that the discussion remained constructive and educational. Both faculty members emphasised the importance of these practical sessions in reinforcing clinical skills and promoting professional development among future medical practitioners.

Dr. Phulpoto and Dr. Khaskhelly also highlighted the broader role of KMC Teaching Hospital in serving the people of Khairpur and surrounding areas. They noted that the hospital, established under the leadership of former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, continues to provide essential medical services to the local community. Medical Units One and Two operate under the guidance of Professor Dr. Javed Ahmed Phulpoto, Principal of KMC Khairpur, with a commitment to maintaining public confidence through high-quality healthcare and rigorous academic training.
