KARACHI: In a compassionate response to a family tragedy, the University of Karachi has approved a government-grade job for the sister of a student who was killed in a recent campus accident.
Aniqa Saeed, a student of the Social Welfare department, died on October 11 after being struck by a university point bus. The university’s highest body, the Syndicate, granted approval during a meeting on Saturday for her sister to be appointed at a Grade-16 position within the university.
The decision came after the victim’s father declined a financial compensation offer from the university. Instead, he expressed his desire for his other daughter to be given a permanent job to provide the family with a stable income. His surviving daughter is a recent graduate of the university’s Mass Communication department and will be employed in that same department. In a related development, a committee headed by Dr. Naima Saeed, Chairperson of the Criminology department, has begun an investigation into the points bus accident. Dr. Saeed confirmed that a detailed report, encompassing all aspects of the incident along with recommendations, is being prepared.
