KARACHI: Senior MQM-P leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan has accused the Sindh government of “fearsome corruption” by failing to implement the Karachi Strategic Master Plan, calling it “a living proof of the PPP’s looting and malpractice.”

Speaking at a press conference at the MQM-P’s Bahadurabad headquarters alongside opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi, senior leaders, and legal experts, Izhar alleged that the provincial government embezzled Rs26 billion from a World Bank-funded solar energy project, contradicting Bilawal Bhutto’s stated vision.

He said the court, on MQM’s petition, had directed institutions to ensure implementation of the master plan, exposing large-scale corruption. Izhar also urged the military leadership to ensure enforcement of the plan in cantonment areas, saying Karachi had become “an orphaned city under PPP misrule.”

Ali Khurshidi announced that MQM would pursue the issue to its final stage, demanding master plans for Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas as well.

Advocate Tariq Mansoor accused the Sindh government of deliberately sidelining the approved plan and warned public servants not to become part of the “conspiracy,” noting that the issue could fall under UN anti-corruption conventions.

The press conference was attended by Senator Khalida Ateeb, MPAs Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui, Sikandra Khatoon, Aamir Siddiqui, Maaz Mahboob, Adil Askari, and members of the MQM legal team.
