HYDERABAD: The Women’s Action Forum (WAF) has expressed profound grief and outrage over the sexual assault and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Mirpurkhas.
WAF said the child’s relatives had reported her disappearance to the local police station five days earlier, but no action had been taken. The forum condemned the police’s negligence and inaction in the strongest terms.
“The irresponsible behavior of law enforcement agencies is contributing to an increase in violence against women and children, emboldening those responsible for such crimes,” WAF said.
The forum also criticized the investigation committee formed by SSP Mirpurkhas, Samir Noor Channa, noting that it included officers from the same police station whose failure to act had contributed to the tragedy.
WAF demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for the child’s death, the inclusion of impartial senior officers in the investigation, and a comprehensive inquiry not only into the sexual assault and murder but also into the police’s negligence.
The forum called on the Chief Minister of Sindh and the IG of Sindh to take immediate and effective measures to protect women and children, provide training to law enforcement on the sensitivity of such cases, and ensure accountability for any lapses.
