ISLAMABAD: A farewell ceremony was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Wednesday to honor General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, marking the conclusion of his distinguished 40-year military career. The event, which included a guard of honor, was attended by former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, senior military officers, and other dignitaries.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Mirza was lauded for his decades of service, leadership, and commitment to the Pakistan Armed Forces. Speaking at the ceremony, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation and thanked God for guiding him throughout his career.

In his address, General Mirza reflected on the current geostrategic environment, emphasizing that a strong and capable defence remains the cornerstone of national security. He reaffirmed the armed forces’ readiness to continue safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and highlighted the importance of unity and discipline in meeting evolving security challenges.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces over the years, honoring the nation’s martyrs and their families. Officials noted that the event served not only as a farewell to a senior officer but also as a reminder of the dedication and resilience of Pakistan’s military personnel, whose service underpins the country’s security and stability.

Observers described the occasion as both solemn and celebratory, reflecting the respect and admiration General Mirza earned during his tenure. The farewell underlined the enduring values of service, leadership, and commitment that have defined his career and inspired those serving alongside him.
