KARACHI: The Sindh High Court granted interim bail on Thursday to Liaqat Mehsud, president of the Dumper Association, in connection with unrest that erupted following the death of a young man in Ramswami after a dumper collision. The decision came after Mehsud’s previous application had been rejected by a session court, highlighting the legal complexities surrounding the case.
The court ordered Mehsud to provide a surety of Rs50,000 and instructed him to remain available for further investigation. Notices were also issued to the prosecution and the complainant, who were asked to submit their responses by 17 December. Legal experts noted that the interim bail allowed the accused to remain free while ensuring that judicial processes continued without obstruction.
Police authorities had alleged that Mehsud led violent protests following the fatal accident, mobilising armed guards and allegedly attacking civilians in the process. Eyewitnesses at the scene described chaotic scenes, with local residents expressing both grief over the young man’s death and concern over the escalation of violence that followed.
