KARACHI: Sindh’s Labor, Human Resources and Social Protection Minister and PPP Karachi Division President, Saeed Ghani, along with PPP Sindh General Secretary Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, underlined the Pakistan Peoples Party’s historic role in opening political space for ordinary citizens ahead of the party’s 58th foundation day celebrations on 30 November.

Addressing a press conference at Shah Ahmed Noorani Eidgah Ground in Korangi, the leaders said the PPP’s founding by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto transformed Pakistan’s political landscape, which had previously been dominated by landlords and elite families. “Shaheed Bhutto gave the people political consciousness and opened the doors of politics for the working class, middle and lower-income citizens,” they said.

They credited the party with reducing the military’s influence in politics, while calling on other political parties, the judiciary, journalists and civil society to support democratic institutions to ensure the country’s politics reflects its true democratic spirit. The leaders also highlighted the party’s consistent struggle against electoral manipulation, noting that PPP has faced more election rigging than any other party in Pakistan’s history.

The Karachi Division rally, to be held at Shah Ahmed Noorani Eidgah Ground in Korangi at 1pm, is expected to be the city’s largest in recent memory, with participants arriving from all 47 provincial constituencies in Karachi.

Ghani said the event would highlight the party’s achievements, including infrastructure projects across Karachi and Hyderabad, and announce 500 IT courses for youth in Malir. He emphasized that PPP is a political party, not a military wing, and that it continues to engage in democratic struggle through parliament and political activism.
