KARACHI: A motion has been submitted in the Sindh Assembly proposing an increase in the speed limit on Karachi’s busiest thoroughfare, Shahrah-e-Faisal. The motion was tabled by MQM-P lawmakers Syed Usman and Naseer Ahmed, recommending that the current 60 km/h limit for cars and jeeps be raised to 80 km/h.
Speaking on the proposal, Syed Usman argued that Shahrah-e-Faisal’s heavy traffic and wide lanes make a higher speed limit necessary. The motion also calls for consultation with traffic experts and the implementation of additional safety measures to ensure motorists’ security.
Currently, the road’s speed limits are enforced with newly installed e-challan signboards, part of Karachi’s digital traffic management system, according to DSP Administration Kashif Nadeem.
