ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the country’s highest civil award, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, on the visiting Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, in a ceremony that unfolded with a sense of both dignity and diplomatic warmth.

The honor, reserved for distinguished contributions to Pakistan’s national interests and its international partnerships, marked a significant moment in the leader’s visit and reflected Islamabad’s appreciation for Indonesia’s long-standing friendship. The ceremony, held at the Presidency, carried an atmosphere of formality, yet there was an unmistakable undertone of camaraderie between the two leaders.

As the insignia was placed, President Zardari spoke of the deep historical ties between the two nations and the shared values that had shaped their relationship across generations. The gesture served not only as recognition of President Subianto’s role in advancing bilateral cooperation but also as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s desire to strengthen its bond with Jakarta.

Following the ceremony, the two leaders met to take stock of the current state of Pakistan–Indonesia relations. Their discussions ranged from trade and economic collaboration to education, technology, and cultural exchange, with both men expressing a desire to push the partnership into more dynamic territory.

They also spoke at length about regional issues and global developments, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in promoting peace, stability and mutual understanding. The day concluded with a state banquet held in honor of the Indonesian President. The evening carried a celebratory tone, blending formal speeches with expressions of goodwill as dignitaries from both sides gathered to mark the milestone.
