DADU: Consumers served by 27 feeders of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) in Dadu and Johi owed a combined Rs5 billion in unpaid electricity bills, officials revealed during an open court at the SEPCO Executive Engineer’s office on Thursday.
The session, convened on the directives of the SEPCO chief in Sukkur, was chaired by Engineer Abdul Aziz Panhwar, who told our correspondent Allah Bux Khaskheli that widespread non-payment in the two districts had prompted the company to hold the open court to address grievances and seek prompt resolutions.
Superintending Engineer Muzaffar Khawer, Panhwar, Deputy Commercial Manager Mujeebur Rehman Abbasi, and other officials attended the proceedings, which ran from 10am to 3pm. A total of 178 consumers appeared to register complaints. Officials said deduction bills worth Rs5.136 million were issued during the session, while immediate relief of Rs1.1 million was granted to consumers. Several complainants also accused linemen of corruption and irregular practices.
Sources added that government departments, including Revenue, Irrigation, and Police, had also failed to clear outstanding bills, collectively amounting to Rs70 million.
