    KU employees elect peoples united to lead welfare body

    KARACHI: The University of Karachi Employees Welfare Association elections for the term 2025–2027 concluded with a decisive victory for the Peoples United Employees, who won all positions, including all executive council seats.

    A total of 1,594 votes were cast out of 1,877, with polling held at the Faculty of Islamic Studies building on Wednesday. According to the final results announced by Chief Election Officer Shamim A. Rauf, Zahid Hussain was elected President with 623 votes, while Tariq Abbas and Muhammad Arshad secured the two Vice President seats with 619 votes each.

    Wajid Malik was elected General Secretary with 623 votes; Iqbal Khan and Bushra Raza won the Joint Secretary positions with 624 and 621 votes respectively. Deedar Hussain was elected Finance Secretary (Treasurer) with 617 votes, and Shafi Muhammad secured the Secretary Information and Publication seat with 624 votes.

    For executive council positions, Muhammad Safder received 619 votes, Muhammad Arif and Muhammad Munsif Khan 618 votes each, Syed Muhammad Yousuf 616 votes, Miraj Uddin and Shams Uddin Gabol 615 votes each, Irfan Masih and Muhammad Anis 611 votes each, and Zohaib Maqsood 609 votes.

    The elections saw participation from four groups: Mulazimeen Ittehad, Insaf Pasand, Peoples United Employees, and Neutral Employees Group. University of Karachi Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi congratulated the newly elected President and office bearers of the Peoples United Employees and extended his best wishes for their term.
