NLF presses for action to check WWB mismanagement

KARACHI: The National Labor Federation (NLF) leadership has demanded the immediate return of Zahid Hakro to his parent department, Education (SES), to safeguard the assets of the Workers’ Welfare Board (WWB) Sindh and protect laborers’ rights.

Shakeel Sheikh, President NLF Sindh, and Khalid Khan, President NLF Karachi Division, stated that laborers are being deprived of their entitlements due to corrupt officials like Zahid Hakro, whose demotion was previously ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Despite multiple cases registered against him with NAB and the Anti-Corruption Department, Hakro remains in a powerful position, with a specially created post of Deputy Director Estate (BPS-18), granting him authority to sell WWB assets—including lands and quarters meant for poor laborers—through his agents.

Sheikh and Khan criticized the continuous violation of Supreme Court orders, noting that while 16 other officers on deputation to the WWB were sent back to their parent departments, Zahid Hakro alone has been allowed to retain control. They highlighted that Hakro has already sold WWB lands in Larkana and Sukkur, and continues to manipulate grants intended for registered laborers.

The NLF leadership accused Secretary WWB Sualeh Jumani of shielding Hakro and facilitating corruption. Sheikh urged the Sindh government to act promptly to restore Hakro to his original department, emphasizing that this step is essential to protect laborers’ rights and curb massive corruption in the Workers’ Welfare Board.
