SUKKUR: Sukkur is set to host the 2nd Lok Sahaita Marathon International Race, with more than 3,000 national and international athletes registered to participate, officials said. The event, taking place today, includes men’s, women’s, and a special journalist race, and aims to celebrate sports, culture, and peace.

During a briefing, Commissioner Sukkur Abid Saleem Qureshi and DIG Traffic Karachi Pir Muhammad Shah outlined the marathon routes: the men’s marathon covers 42.195 km from Sukkur Public School to Shah Hussain Bypass and back, while the women’s 10 km race runs from Sukkur Public School to Central Jail Sukkur and back. The journalist race covers a shorter route from Sukkur Public School to Globe Chowk and back.

Officials highlighted that athletes are participating from Europe, Japan, Africa, Italy, Syria, and other countries. Accommodation, food, and drinks are being provided free for all participants. “This event is more than just a race—it is a celebration of hope, resilience, and the rich spirit of our people,” said Commissioner Qureshi.

The officials urged locals to support the event and cheer on participants, emphasizing that the marathon not only showcases Sindh’s culture to the world but also promotes a message of peace. “The participation of international athletes reflects the world’s trust in Pakistan and Sukkur,” they added.

DIG Pir Muhammad Shah visited the marathon route in advance to ensure it was clear of obstacles and safe for participants. Officials called on the public to contribute to the success of the event by staying close to the track and encouraging the athletes. The marathon is being described as a landmark occasion for Sukkur and Sindh, combining sports, culture, and international goodwill in a single event.
