KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, inaugurated multiple development and community facilities in Shireen Jinnah Colony, including parks, a community center, a dispensary, and a mortuary, underscoring the city administration’s commitment to citizen welfare.

Addressing residents, the Mayor emphasized that the administration is dedicated to serving all citizens without discrimination, regardless of political affiliations in the area. “Our daily goal is to ensure that the public benefits from our decisions, our pen, and our words,” he said, highlighting the ongoing efforts to improve Karachi’s infrastructure and public services.

He condemned road blockages and sit-ins, urging the Chief Minister Sindh to enforce FIRs against those obstructing city traffic. He added that the Mazar-e-Quaid grounds should be allocated for sit-ins by Jamaat-e-Islami, instead of disrupting public life.

The newly inaugurated Shireen Jinnah Park in UC-12, previously a garbage dump and encroached area, has been rehabilitated and opened for public use, with local residents entrusted to protect it. The dispensary has been established to provide basic medical facilities at the community’s doorstep, while the mortuary, capable of preserving 12 bodies, addresses a critical need for nearby areas including Clifton, DHA, and Lyari.

The Mayor highlighted that the area’s RO plant has been fully activated, supplying 150,000 gallons of potable water daily. He further assured that the dilapidated green belt in Shireen Jinnah Colony would be fully rehabilitated within the next two to two-and-a-half months to provide improved recreational spaces.

On development projects, he noted that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is implementing Rs. 30 billion worth of schemes this year, covering highways, roads, playgrounds, and other infrastructure, aiming for completion within 2025.

He also addressed issues of encroachments, stating that the Chief Minister Sindh promptly convened a meeting with builders, the Sindh Home Minister, and the IG Sindh to resolve complaints, while ensuring cooperation and legal enforcement where required.

Concluding his remarks, Mayor Wahab reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to putting Karachi on a path of sustained development, prosperity, and citizen-focused governance.

Present at the ceremony were local elders, Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, elected representatives, and party workers.
