SUKKUR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched an investigation into allegations of illegal kidney transportation and commercial organ transplants at GIMS Hospital in Gambat. Investigators sought complete medical records of both donors and recipients as part of an inquiry into suspected violations of transplant laws.
According to an official letter issued on 31 July 2026 by Assistant Director and Inquiry Officer Nisar Ahmed Sawand, the FIA Crime and Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Circle in Sukkur initiated Inquiry No. 10/2026 against employees of GIMS Gambat and other individuals over allegations of illegal kidney transplantation.
The inquiry was launched after the agency received complaints alleging that human organs had been transplanted through illegal commercial arrangements. The FIA said it had also received a separate complaint alleging human trafficking for the purpose of unlawful organ transplantation, prompting investigators to widen the scope of the inquiry.
The agency directed the Director of GIMS Gambat to provide the complete medical records of two patients who underwent treatment related to kidney transplantation in April 2026. The records sought concerned Mst Khalida, daughter of the late Muhammad Qasim Mirani, and Haneef Bhutto, a resident of Madeji.
The FIA requested comprehensive documentation relating to the treatment of both patients. It asked the hospital to submit outpatient and inpatient records, admission and discharge details, medical examination reports, laboratory and diagnostic test results, treatment history and prescriptions. Investigators also sought the names and designations of all doctors who examined and treated the patients during the transplant process.
In addition, the agency demanded complete records relating to the kidney donors. These included affidavits, family tree documents, copies of national identity cards and all other documents required under the legal procedure for kidney transplantation. The hospital administration was instructed to submit the requested records to the Office of the Additional Director FIA Sukkur by 4 August 2026. Officials said the documents would help investigators determine whether any illegal commercial kidney transplant or human trafficking network had operated through the medical facility. They added that the inquiry was continuing and that all relevant evidence would be examined before any further legal action was taken.
