ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has showcased its growing focus on indigenous defence technology at the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026 in Islamabad, where officials and industry representatives highlighted locally developed autonomous systems, drone technology and artificial intelligence-based defence solutions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing the event, said Pakistan had made significant progress in modern technology and local manufacturing. He said the development of indigenous systems would strengthen the country’s defence capabilities and support future growth in advanced technology sectors.
Officials at the exhibition said military and aviation training simulators displayed at the event had been manufactured locally. They added that Pakistan had increased its capacity in drone production, with more than 60 per cent of components being produced domestically, according to government claims.
One of the key attractions at the expo was the “Drone Hunter” anti-drone system developed by Pakistan’s Research and Development Command (RDC). Organizers described the system as an artificial intelligence-enabled platform designed to counter emerging drone threats. They said the technology had been developed by upgrading an existing 14.5mm anti-aircraft gun platform with automated targeting and detection capabilities.
According to details shared at the exhibition, the system was designed to detect drones at a range of up to 8 kilometers and engage targets within approximately 2 kilometers. Officials said the platform could provide a cost-effective alternative to more expensive anti-drone missile systems.
The expo also featured a range of other defence technologies, including surveillance radars, navigation disruption systems, drone jamming solutions and locally developed unmanned aerial vehicles. Industry representatives said the event reflected Pakistan’s efforts to expand its role in robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous technology.
