ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) and assured continued government support for the promotion of press freedom in the country.
In his message, President Zardari said that adherence to journalistic values, fact-based reporting and the promotion of national interest are essential in the current environment. He added that the media plays a vital role in strengthening national unity and democratic stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended his felicitations to the newly elected CPNE leadership, saying that a free, responsible and informed media is a key pillar of any democratic society. He expressed hope that the new leadership would contribute effectively to promoting journalistic standards and protecting national interests. He further said the government would continue to cooperate with the media community and address their concerns.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also congratulated newly elected CPNE President Kazim Khan and other office-bearers, conveying her best wishes. She said she hoped the council would continue to uphold responsible journalism and play its role in safeguarding national interests.
