Security forces launched a precise operation against suspected militant hideouts, seeking to dismantle networks and restore stability in the troubled region

ISLAMABAD: Security forces had continued intelligence-based operations in Balochistan under Operation Azm, with the number of militants killed rising to 13, according to security sources.
The latest operation was carried out in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung, where security personnel engaged militants during an exchange of fire. Several militants were killed during the encounter, while others were believed to have sustained injuries, the sources said.
The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militant elements in the area. Security forces moved into the suspected location and conducted a targeted action aimed at disrupting militant networks operating in the region.
During the operation, multiple hideouts were destroyed, according to security officials. They said the locations were being used by militants for planning attacks and storing weapons and other materials. Security personnel also recovered weapons, explosives and equipment allegedly linked to the preparation of improvised explosive devices.
Officials said the recovery of IED-making material showed that militant groups had been attempting to strengthen their operational capabilities in the province. They added that the operation had prevented possible attacks and weakened the infrastructure of armed groups active in the area.
Balochistan has remained a key focus of security operations in recent years as authorities have faced attacks by militant groups targeting security personnel, civilians and development projects. Security officials said such operations were being carried out on the basis of intelligence gathering and coordination among different security agencies.
The latest action came as part of a broader campaign under Operation Azm, launched to counter militant activities and restore peace in areas affected by violence. Security officials said operations would continue across the province until militant networks were completely dismantled and lasting stability was achieved.
They said security forces remained committed to eliminating terrorism and ensuring the safety of local communities. However, the claims made by security sources regarding the operation, including the number of militants killed and the destruction of hideouts, could not be independently verified.
The security situation in Balochistan has remained complex, with authorities facing the challenge of addressing militant threats while maintaining stability in a province that has strategic importance because of its natural resources, coastal location and major infrastructure projects.
