A militant ambush on a police patrol on Shakardara Road, Kohat, killed seven people, including a deputy superintendent of police and five other officers, prompting a citywide security operation and heightened vigilance.

KOHAT: Seven people were killed when militants attacked a police patrol on the outskirts of Kohat on Tuesday, officials said. The vehicle, on routine patrol, came under indiscriminate gunfire before the assailants set it on fire and fled the scene.

District Police Officer confirmed that DSP Asad Mehmood and two other officials died at the scene, while four injured personnel were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where two more succumbed to their wounds. A civilian passerby was also killed. Hospital authorities reported that three police officers and one civilian remained under treatment, some in critical condition.
Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation, tightening checks at city entry and exit points. Funeral prayers for the slain officers were held with full state honours at the New Police Lines in Kohat, attended by senior civil and military officials, lawyers, journalists, and local residents, who paid tributes and vowed to continue operations against militant groups.
Investigations are ongoing, and intelligence-based operations have been initiated to apprehend those responsible. The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by militants in the region and the risks faced by law enforcement personnel.
