KARACHI: The Pakistan–ASEAN Economic Dialogue 2026 was held in Karachi under a framework aimed at strengthening economic engagement between Pakistan and Southeast Asian economies, with organizers describing it as part of broader efforts to deepen regional cooperation and trade linkages.
The event was organized by the Pakistan–Malaysia Friendship Association (PMFA) in collaboration with the Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi, bringing together diplomats, policymakers and business representatives to discuss emerging opportunities for economic collaboration between Pakistan and ASEAN member states.
Director General Foreign Affairs Muhammad Irfan Soomro attended the dialogue as chief guest, where he also distributed awards and commemorative shields among distinguished participants in recognition of their contributions to promoting regional cooperation and economic diplomacy.
The dialogue, titled “Pakistan–ASEAN Economic Dialogue 2026”, focused on expanding trade relations, improving investment flows and enhancing regional connectivity between Pakistan and Southeast Asia. Participants discussed the importance of creating stronger institutional and commercial links at a time when regional economies were seeking greater integration and diversification of markets.
Officials and organizers said the platform was designed to encourage mutual understanding among participating countries while also identifying practical pathways for cooperation in sectors such as trade, logistics, education and cultural exchange. The discussions also highlighted the role of people-to-people contacts in sustaining long-term diplomatic and economic relationships.
Speakers at the event underscored that Pakistan’s engagement with ASEAN countries had continued to evolve over the years, with increasing emphasis on economic diplomacy as a key pillar of foreign policy.
