KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmaker Shabbir Qaimkhani on Monday denied reports that the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters had been sealed, saying police had not provided any official order authorizing such action.
Speaking to media outside the party office, Qaimkhani said the Station House Officer (SHO) of New Town police station had visited the headquarters and informed party members that instructions had been issued to lock the premises. He said the party had asked police officials to present the written order, but no document had been shown so far.

The statement came amid growing tensions within MQM-P following clashes between rival groups linked to factions associated with Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal. The situation escalated on the night of August 2 when two people were injured during a confrontation at the Bahadurabad headquarters, where gunfire and stone-throwing were reported.
Following the incident, police and Rangers moved to secure the area and brought the situation under control. Law enforcement agencies later detained several MQM-P office-bearers and workers from the party headquarters as part of their response.
Police also conducted operations in different areas of Karachi and took several party officials and activists into custody, including Rehman Bhola.
A heavy police deployment remained outside the MQM-P headquarters in Bahadurabad, where Qaimkhani and other party leaders were present. The party leadership maintained that it would seek clarification through legal and official channels regarding the reported action.
The developments have added to internal challenges facing MQM-P, which has been dealing with growing differences among its senior leadership. Authorities have said security measures were aimed at maintaining law and order following the clashes.
