KARACHI: At least three people were injured after supporters of rival factions within the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) clashed outside the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters in Karachi, amid growing tensions within the organization.
According to reports, supporters linked to groups led by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal became involved in a confrontation that included physical clashes, stone pelting and aerial firing. The violence reportedly left three people injured, with party leaders accusing rival groups of attacking workers and damaging property at the party office.
MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar told Geo News that the dispute emerged after a party meeting attended by senior leaders at the Bahadurabad headquarters. He alleged that supporters of one faction attacked MPA Ejaz-ul-Haq and party leader Zakir, while also using abusive language against Mangla Sharma and Sabeen Ghori.
Another MQM-P leader, Aminul Haque, claimed that one worker sustained injuries from gunfire, while others were hurt during stone pelting. He alleged that the party office was vandalized during the incident and that a digital video recorder (DVR) was taken from the premises.
Farooq Sattar later reached the party headquarters as the situation remained tense. Party leaders continued to discuss the developments while the details of the confrontation emerged.
The incident highlighted internal differences within MQM-P, a party that has been attempting to maintain unity among its leadership and workers in Karachi. The accounts of the clash were based on statements from MQM-P leaders, while an official police version had not been released at the time of reporting.
