KARACHI: Questions have been raised over the initial post-mortem report of young businessman Mir Raza Ali after apparent discrepancies were identified, with sources warning that the investigation could be compromised if the findings are not properly reviewed.
Medical-legal officer (MLO) sources said photographs of the body showed a small bullet mark on the back and a larger wound on the chest.
According to the sources, photographs also showed the fingers of the left hand clenched into a fist and entangled with broken grass. Some suspicious marks were also visible on the right hand. MLO sources said another wound could be seen on the face, below the chin, in the photographs of the body.
The sources said the report indicated that the body was between 24 and 36 hours old when it was examined.
They further said the apparent size of the bullet entry wound was larger than the exit wound. According to the sources, the marks visible in the photographs suggested that the bullet had entered from the back and exited through the front of the body.
The sources also said the photographs showed the body had become swollen and the face was severely disfigured. They said a detailed examination of the head could have helped establish the cause of the facial injuries or disfigurement.
The reported discrepancies have raised concerns about the accuracy and completeness of the initial post-mortem examination. Further forensic and medical examination may be required to clarify the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death and determine the exact nature and direction of the gunshot wound.
