SUKKUR: A total of 227 people with disabilities received assistive devices at a distribution ceremony in Khairpur aimed at helping beneficiaries achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life.

The ceremony was held at Al-Mustafa Marriage Hall and organized by the Khairpur Disaster & Management Cell Welfare Organization (KDC) with financial support from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh.

Beneficiaries were selected from applications collected by KDC, with priority given to people identified as most in need of assistance.
Nafisa Shah praised KDC and DEPD for their efforts to rehabilitate people with disabilities and described the program as one of the largest distribution events of its kind in Khairpur.
She urged the DEPD regional director to provide maximum support to KDC for initiatives aimed at improving the rehabilitation and inclusion of people with disabilities.
Shah also highlighted KDC’s work in providing prosthetic limbs, saying the devices could enable beneficiaries to walk and work independently rather than rely on others for mobility. She assured the organization of continued support at both provincial and federal levels for similar programs.
Abdul Qudoos Memon said the quality of assistive devices being distributed through the collaboration between DEPD and KDC was having a significant impact on beneficiaries. He noted that some people who had arrived at the ceremony requiring assistance were able to leave independently after receiving prosthetic limbs, describing this as the true measure of rehabilitation.
The 227 beneficiaries received a range of devices according to their individual needs, including above-knee and below-knee prosthetic limbs, above-elbow and below-elbow prostheses, functional hands, electric wheelchairs, conventional wheelchairs, tricycles, walkers, cerebral palsy walkers, hip-abduction braces, zipper gloves, cosmetic gloves and hearing aids, among other mobility and support equipment.
KDC chairman Azhar Hussain Brohi said rehabilitation and assistive-device distribution programs would continue across Khairpur district to promote inclusion, mobility and independence among people with disabilities. The organizers said such initiatives were intended not only to provide equipment but also to help people with disabilities participate more independently in family, social and economic life.
