SIALKOT: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal called for the modernization of Sialkot’s industrial sector through greater use of technology and an expansion of exports.
Addressing the German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sialkot, the minister said Pakistani industries needed to adopt modern technologies to remain competitive in international markets.
Iqbal said Pakistan and Germany enjoyed longstanding diplomatic relations and were set to celebrate 75 years of bilateral ties. He said the relationship had developed over the decades and offered opportunities for stronger economic and commercial cooperation.
The minister stressed that technological modernization was becoming increasingly important for industries seeking to compete in a rapidly changing global market. He said businesses could not rely solely on traditional production methods and needed to improve efficiency, quality and innovation.
He also highlighted the potential for Pakistan to significantly increase its exports. He said the country needed to move beyond existing products and develop new goods and brands capable of securing a stronger presence in international markets.
Iqbal said Sialkot, known for its manufacturing and export-oriented industries, had an important role to play in this effort. The city’s industrial base, he said, could benefit from greater investment in technology, product development and international marketing.
He urged the business community to focus on innovation and value-added production to strengthen Pakistan’s position in global supply chains.
The minister’s remarks came as the government sought to promote exports and improve the competitiveness of domestic industries. He said closer engagement between the public and private sectors would be important for creating new opportunities and expanding Pakistan’s presence in international markets.
